As the story is told, Martin needed a wheelchair for a person who wanted to pay their last respects to a loved one at the funeral home.
He called all over town but could not find one and, unfortunately, they had to carry this person into the funeral home. Martin decided to order a wheelchair so if this situation occurred again, he would be prepared. His order kept getting backlogged due to the war — he continued to wait and wait. Finally, one day – 12 wheel chairs were delivered, much to his surprise!
Martin did not need all 12 wheelchairs, so he decided to sell or
rent them to others.
The demand was there. He thought… if I could rent & sell wheel chairs, why not crutches, canes, walkers, etc., thus the Hospital Supply idea was born.
